Performance: The Half-Duplex Wireless System operates in two modes. It can function as a means of adding wireless remote stations to an existing cabled intercom system, or, where no cabled system exists, it can serve as the base for a system incorporating wireless remote stations and up to 5 standard cabled intercom stations (beltpacks). There are two main components: a specially prepared ICOM repeater and our HD903 interface. The repeater handles the radio traffic to and from the wireless remotes. The HD903 connects the wireless to the cabled, eliminates constant transmit background noise from getting into the cabled portion, and can function as the power supply for a small cabled system up to 5 beltpacks. Both units can be rack mounted or they are available housed in a sturdy road case. All stations, both wireless and cabled, constantly monitor the communication channel. The cabled stations can also, simultaneously, talk to all the others. The wireless stations must press a talk button to do that. The remote wireless stations are actually widely available portable transceivers, or ‘walkie-talkies’, except, in this application they are constantly receiving rather than only when another transceiver is sending. The number of wireless remote stations is technically unlimited but in practical terms would likely be fewer than 10. The wireless portion of the system operates in protected frequencies where the likelihood of interference from other radio devices is very reduced. When properly licensed and operating at the increased power, these remotes are capable of communication with each other and the cabled portion of the system over longer distances than typical wireless beltpack systems.
Durability: All the components of these systems meet very high standards for resistance to accidental damage.
Value: Compared to conventional wireless beltpack systems a WBS4000 system can cost from half to much lower, depending upon the number of remote wireless stations being used.
Compatibility: The Half-Duplex Wireless System can be integrated with any 200 ohm unbalanced cabled intercom system. We recommend ICOM portables but most high quality UHF products can be used.
Specifications: This system will be made up of a variety of components: the repeater, the HD903 interface and the transceivers selected for wireless remote station use.
There may also be cabled beltpacks, headsets and earsets. Specifications for each component are available.
